After completion of my residency, I joined the staff of Safari Animal Care Centers in League City, Texas.

My name is Robin Scott. I am a veterinarian in League City, Texas at Safari Animal Care Centers with a special interest in avian and exotic animal medicine. I am the proud owner of 5 wonderful pet birds: Shakey, a Scarlet Macaw; Shadow, a Hybrid Macaw (Blue/Gold X Military); Bart, a Double Yellow Head Amazon Parrot; Mr. Too, an Umbrella Cockatoo; and Big Mac, a Yellow Collared Macaw.

As a bird owner, I was amazed at how little there was known about proper care of these beautiful parrots and how few veterinarians there were who were trained in the care of birds and other exotics. During my veterinary career, I have directed my veterinary training to learn as much as possible about birds and other exotics.

The field of avian medicine is growing at an exponential pace. In order to provide the best possible care for my avian patients, I am constantly learning. I am an active member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) and have attended the yearly conferences regularly since 1989. In addition to conference attendance, I have made conference presentations covering several topics including:

Tracheal Obstruction in an Umbrella Cockatoo

Endoscopic Evaluation of Respiratory Tract Disease in Ratites

The use of Serum Bile Acid Levels in the Detection of Hepatobiliary Disease in Raptors.

This year , I am preparing two presentations; Ascaridiasis and Gastrointestinal Stasis in a Hyacinth Macaw; and Passerine Aviary Diseases: Diagnosis and Treatment. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas, educate and learn; in turn we can better serve our clients and care for their pets.
